Online Safety Accelerator

Responding to high demand from Westminster's underserved communities, Ubuntu Pledge launched a two-week online accelerator program focused on essential to medium-level online safety, equipping participants with practical skills to navigate the digital world securely.

Project Overview

Following the success of our broader digital inclusion efforts, it became clear that online safety was a critical and highly sought-after skill in Westminster's underserved communities. Residents expressed a strong desire for more in-depth knowledge to confidently manage their online interactions.

To meet this need, we designed and delivered a focused, two-week in-person accelerator program specifically dedicated to providing practical, basic to medium-level online safety training.

What we did

This intensive online program provided a deep dive into crucial online safety topics. It was structured to be responsive and highly practical, addressing common concerns and building robust defense mechanisms for participants in their daily online interactions.

Key program elements included:

  • Understanding Online Scams & Phishing: Practical training on how to identify common online scams, phishing emails, and fraudulent websites.
  • Managing Data Privacy: Sessions on understanding personal data, adjusting privacy settings on popular platforms, and recognizing how information is shared online.
  • Secure Online Habits: Practical guidance on creating strong passwords, using two-factor authentication, safe Browse practices, and recognizing suspicious links or downloads.
  • Responsible Social Media Use: Discussions and strategies for safe interaction on social media, understanding privacy implications of posts, and managing online reputation.
