Programme Description

Following the high demand generated by our previous digital accelerator program, Ubuntu Pledge, in partnership with Westminster Libraries, developed this focused, two-week Online Safety Accelerator. The program addresses the critical need for deeper knowledge in navigating online risks. It’s built to be highly practical and responsive, providing participants with robust defense mechanisms for their daily digital interactions. Our aim is to build confidence and empower individuals to protect themselves and their families effectively.

Week 1: Understanding & Protecting Your Digital Self

    • Introduction to common online risks: scams, phishing, and malware.
    • Learning to recognize suspicious emails, messages, and links.
    • Understanding the motives and methods of cybercriminals.
  • Session 2: Managing Your Data Privacy
    • What constitutes personal data and why it's valuable.
    • How to review and adjust privacy settings on social media and other online accounts.
    • Understanding your 'digital footprint' and strategies for managing online reputation.

Week 2: Secure Habits & Responsible Online Engagement

  • Session 3: Implementing Secure Online Practices
    • Best practices for creating strong, unique passwords and using password managers.
    • The importance and practical application of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
    • Safe browsing techniques and identifying secure websites (HTTPS).
    • Tips for secure online shopping and banking.
  • Session 4: Navigating Social Media Responsibly
    • Understanding privacy considerations and sharing responsibly on social media platforms.
    • Strategies for identifying fake news and misinformation.
    • Best practices for online communication and managing your online presence.
    • How to report inappropriate content or cyberbullying effectively.
